New Ways of Working #5
Hello 👋 It’s time already for the fifth edition of the New Ways of Working newsletter. As always, the purpose is:
To help you to explore new ways of working.
In this edition, I’m sharing with you one verrrry eagerly anticipated podcast, a short video on busting bureaucracy, a wonderful tool to help improve focus, and a reminder about an awesome upcoming free event. Here goes:
Podcast 📻
Frederic Laloux is the author of the seminal book 'Reinventing Organisations' and one of the leading figures in the new ways of working movement. In this much anticipated Leadermorphsis podcast episode, Lisa Gill shares a wonderful conversation in which they explore how we can use juicy questions to explore new frontiers of what’s possible in our organisations and lives. I’m certain you’ll enjoy this!
Video 🎥
Contrary to what you’ve been told, change doesn’t start at the top. It starts with you!
This short video, Anyone can hack management, offers our movement some great encouragement. Gary Hamel is the co-author of Humanocracy, a Professor at London Business School, the Wall Street Journal's #1 business thinker, and his articles for the Harvard Business Review are among the most reprinted in HBR’s history.
Tool 🔧
Focusmate virtual coworking helps you get things done. Developed by coaches, it uses evidence-based approaches to productivity and accountability. Its purposes is to empower people and groups to achieve their goals by unlocking the power of psychology, technology and the human spirit. My to-do list is way shorter since I started using it - give it a go!
Free Event 🗓️
There are still some tickets available for the second online Authors Fishbowl Discussion. Once again it brings together authors of the best books on new ways of working. The theme for the discussion is New ways of working sound great! Where do we start? It’s going to be an awesome conversation. You can get your free ticket here. If you’ve already got one, don’t forget to invite your colleagues!
About Mark Eddleston
I’m a new ways of working consultant, coach, and facilitator. For years I’ve been practising progressive ways of working whilst synthesising the mountain of information out there.
I came across new ways of working in New Zealand in 2015 after spending a decade in traditional workplaces. It was the first time I found consistent fulfilment in work. This experience was with a law firm and community organisation that features on the distinguished Corporate Rebels ‘bucket list’. Once you taste this way of working, it’s impossible to go back. I’ve now been a member of staff in three organisations that embraced progressive leadership, so come with plenty of lived experience.
I’m also co-founder of Reinventing Work, a decentralised global movement for people interested in more human-centred, purposeful and self-organised ways of working. So far we’ve gathered in 25 cities across five continents, including in Bristol (where it began) London, Berlin, Melbourne, Montreal and New York. I’ve delivered online sessions to hundreds, spoken about new ways of working at The University of Oxford, and facilitated at Meaning Fringe. I’ve also appeared on the wonderful Leadermorphosis podcast and the University of the West of England’s MSc Occupational Psychology programme discussing the future of work.
